We at GirlPlanet.Earth are an eclectic, collaborative bunch of people committed to three basic ideas - that our exquisite Earth can only hold so many people; that smaller families can live better; that our future requires greater wisdom from us. Here are the people behind this project....
ROCIO HERBERT
Cultural anthropologist, mother, community advocate for people connecting to their own indigenous backgrounds. Co-leader of projects to restore climate to conditions humans have survived long-term. Studies our transition from hunter gatherer to agriculture 10,000+ years ago. Writing a book about how this shift impacts our lives today.
LINDSAY DE COSTA
Twenty-something with a degree in agriculture, undecided about creating my own family, mostly concerned about the future of all life on Earth.
WANJIKU GICHIGI
Humanitarian evaluator who consults for development agencies interested in tracking progress towards their strategic goals. Special interest in a decolonized narrative and balance between human life and the environment.
CHRISTOPHER TUCKER
Author of A Planet of 3 Billion. Keen to empower women and girls, because it is right and a good thing to do, will also bend our global population curve and help us avert climate catastrophe, ecological destruction, and human suffering.
ELLEN HURST
Business coach and consultant working with individuals as well as companies developing and implementing their vision, strengthening their leadership skills and creating legacy plans. Also a multimedia artist, finding and making art wherever I go.
CARTER DILLARD
Honors Program appointee to the U.S. Justice Department, served on the Steering Committee of the Population Ethics and Policy Research Project and as a Visiting Scholar at the Uehiro Center, both at University of Oxford. Wrote the forthcoming book Justice as a Fair Start in Life (Eliva, 2021).
SUZANNE YORK
Director of Transition Earth. Longtime environmental and human rights advocate. It is my passion to see a world in balance, where both human rights and rights for nature are honored and respected, allowing all beings to thrive on our little blue dot.
FLORENCE NALUYIMBA BLONDEL
Impassioned about communications, digital marketing, events, health, environmental and global justice campaigning with a special interest in young girls and women’s agency. Loves digital storytelling. Has developed three organisations’ social media marketing strategies and for another, campaign strategies.

Julia: nature, wildlife and astrophotographer, biology student, animal ethics proponent, vegan, aspiring adventure sportswoman. Phoebe, her mom: also mostly vegan, worked in government and academia in Africa 34 years, global change scientist, women's leadership mentor, sustainability strategist, founder Population Conversations and GirlPlanet, film co-producer, coauthor of the 2020 World Scientists' Warning of a Climate Emergency paper, cosigned by 14,700+ scientists; lead author of the 2021 World Scientists' Warnings into Action: Local to Global, already cosigned by 3000+.
KATHLEEN SWEENEY
Multimedia storyteller, founder of WordCityStudio, working at the intersection of digital art and social change. Assistant Professor at The New School for Public Engagement; creator of courses such as Girl Innovators, Beyond iCelebrities, Hero(ine)s and The Viral Media Lab. Author of pop culture monograph Maiden USA: Girl Icons Come of Age, Peter Lang Publishers, which is used in media studies curricula nationwide. Publishes often on technology, pop culture and mindfulness, has been cited in many outlets including The New Yorker and Gannet News.
JANET FLATON, MD
Board-certified pediatrician and specialist, caring for children, teens and adults with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Founded the multi-disciplinary Flaton ADDept Center in 2009, providing empowerment and personal transformation through a combined holistic/traditional medical approach. Envisions a global program for ADHD children from infancy through secondary school, incorporating exploration, apprenticeships, collaboration, mindfulness training and compassionate discipline in a natural environment.
