SUSAN KOBUSINGYE

'As a 21-year-old Ugandan woman, I’ve witnessed the devastating impact of human

activity on our beloved ‘Pearl of Africa’. My hometown, Isingiro District, once a thriving

food basket, now struggles with the effects of climate change.

At campus, I was determined to make a difference. I joined the Mvule Generation Club,

where I served as president and led initiatives to raise awareness about climate change

and promote sustainability. We organized debates, symposiums, clean-ups, outreaches,

and tree planting sessions. Yes, you read that right – tree planting! We believed that

planting trees was a tangible way to combat climate change and promote environmental

conservation. We partnered with the Kenyan embassy in Jinja to plant trees and also

made tree planting a tradition after every event. Our efforts were geared towards

restoring Uganda’s natural beauty and promoting a culture of sustainability.

I also pursued my passion for mental health by joining Mindlyf, a startup that provides

guidance and services for youth and children. As the public relations officer, I helped

amplify their message and reach more young people.

Academically, I studied procurement and supply chain management, and I had the

opportunity to apply my skills during an internship at the Uganda Revenue Authority’s

procurement unit.

After university, Mvule Generation Organization recognized my potential and appointed

me as Student Liaison Officer and Social Media Advocate. I continue to inspire club

members and engage with the wider community to drive positive change. To further

amplify our message, I’m launching a Twitter Space series, ’Climate Resilience Africa’,

leveraging social media to mobilize youths and stakeholders in the environmental

movement.

Through my story, I hope to inspire action and resilience in the face of climate change.

Together, we can restore Uganda’s former glory and create a sustainable future for

generations to come.'
